IRVIN 67 Final eBlast No. 17 for OCT 10, 2007
Reunion Ticket Sales End on Wed Oct 17th
(**Only 7 Days Left Until the Reunion!**)

Classmates of 1967 and Dear Friends,
I found a song and would like to share the lyrics with you:

There's a time for Joy
A times for tears
A time we'll treasure thru the years
We'll remember always
Graduation day.

At senior prom
We danced 'til three
And there you gave your heart to me
We'll remember always
Graduation day.
Though we leave in sorrow
All the joys we've known
We can face tomorrow
Knowing we'll never walk alone
When the ivy walls
Are far Behind
No matter where our paths may wind
We'll remember always
Graduation Day
We'll remember always
Graduation Day.

We shall remember always Irvin High School and all our days there. But be happy in that we will get to relive, remember, and revive ourselves today for what happened yesterday and know that by doing so...our tomorrows will be full of the best of who we were, are and will be. This Reunion will stir our emotions with laughter, tears, and joy. Thank you ...yes you...and you...and everyone who has been energetic, enthusiastic and excited about our/your 40th Reunion. Know that all of this would mean nothing if YOU hadn't wanted it to happen. Our/Your Committee was the Skeleton behind this Reunion....but YOU are the BODY...the skin that holds the skeleton together....and when you add your heart and soul to ours...How could we not possibly have The Best Body Ever (no pun intended). WE ARE the Class of 1967. And WE ARE proud to be able to meet for Old/New time's sake. Thank you for all you have done to make this A Reunion to Remember! See y'all real soon!

Smiles,
Joie, JoAnn whoever! GO GET 'EM ROCKETS!!!!! Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo!

IRVIN 67 eBlast No. 16 for SEP 30, 2007
Reunion Ticket Sales End on Wed Oct 17th
(**Only 17 Days Left Until the Reunion!**)

Greetings to the Class of 1967:

Very shortly we will gather to celebrate our 40th High School Reunion. "How time flies when you are having a good time" or so the old saying goes. Well, we are ready to have a good---no wait--we are ready to have a grand ole time. All is in place; the scheduled events, the decorations, the hotel, the lanyards. All we need is YOU! Bring your camera, your dancing shoes, and be ready to reminisce, rekindle old friendships, and become a part of new memories. There is still plenty of time to register! Don't miss this special time of our lives.

CLASS OF 1967 REALLY ROCKS!

INTRO BY- - Jinny Steward Forbes

REUNION INFO:
- Registered Attendees will receive a separate email containing directions from the Airport to the Holiday Inn, Time and Location of Events, and Reunion Committee Phone Numbers to use in El Paso. The First Thing everyone needs to do upon arrival in El Paso, is Go To Holiday Inn Reunion Headquarters and pick-up a Personalized Reunion Package. Don't forget a Ticket/Lanyard is required for entry to all Reunion Events.

- If you haven't already updated your Event Choices, please do it now, especially if you intend to eat at Carlos & Mickey's on Thursday Evening
http://shasteen.com/AttendingWEB05.pdf

- The Saturday Night Buffet/Dance is advertised as casual, so wear something you think will be comfortable for dancing. People will be taking pictures for the Reunion DVD, so the most important thing is that you wear your smile.

- There will be a Guest Book at Reunion Headquarters for Attendee's to share Cell Numbers, Email Addresses, etc. This is to assist Classmates in locating each other during and after the Reunion.
http://carolrthomas.com/IRVIN/Reunion40/pages40/IndexList40.htm

- Jerry Barrett, Class of '66, has offered to teach a Dance Class during Saturday's Oct 20th Mixer/Luncheon at the Wright Ranch. It will include both freestyle and jitterbug dancing - very basic stuff. No partners required. If interested just bring your dancing shoes.

IRVIN 67 eBlast No. 15 for SEP 20, 2007
Reunion Ticket Sales End on Wed Oct 17th
(**Only 27 Days Left Until the Reunion!**)

This is one of those rare times I open the window to my soul, so pay attention. Donna and I weren’t going to this reunion for all the typical reasons: too far, too expensive, too old, too everything. But we wanted to help, and working with the “committee,” old friendships rekindled. I called many of you that didn’t know you were “Lost.” The more we talked, the more emotions bubbled to the surface. For those of you that know me, that is a true oxymoron. I am not emotional. We talked about the importance of those years to us all; what they meant to us. But it wasn’t the years that were special; it was all of us, our parents, our teachers that were so special; that made the “time” so special. So now, Donna and I are going to the reunion. Not to go back in time, but to re-connect with each of you, our friends, and celebrate that which is so much a part of what each of us are today. If I don’t see you in October, I’ll be calling to catch up on what you, my friends, have been doing these last forty years.
INTRO BY- - Ray Shasteen

REUNION STATUS:
- Response to the last eBlast was overwhelming. So many classmates contacted us in the hopes of obtaining the few remaining Ballroom seats that we requested help from the Holiday Inn in making the Atrium a part of the main event, instead of just a waiting area and their response has been favorable. Unfortunately, attendance is still limited by fire codes and the ticket deadline for all events is still $60 Check in our Hands by Oct 17th or until we reach capacity, so Register Today.

- The Old Mesilla Trolley Tour has been cancelled, since only 10 of the optimum 31 people signed up. Please join the rest of the class and sign up to spend the day at Fredye Wright Gross's brother's ranch.

- Wednesday's Parade, Pep Rally, and BBQ are sponsored by Irvin HS itself and open to all Alumni as is the Irvin vs. Austin Homecoming Game, but a special seating area will be set aside at the game for those with a Reunion Lanyard/Ticket.

- To give credit where it's deserved, eBlast Intro's are written by different Committee Members and their names are listed after their work. Don Dungan wrote the last one about all the things he remembers from the 1960's in El Paso. Intro's before Don's were written by Meredith Dahl Kelley, Carol(yn) Rupert Thomas, Fredye Wright Gross and Hilda Green Heady. Many of the earlier Intro's were written by our Reunion Chair, JoAnn (Joie) Campbell Davis or through the combined efforts of Carol, Ray, and Jim. Visit Ray's web site (see below) to view what other classmates have to say and send us email if you have something of your own to share.

IRVIN 67 eBlast No. 14 for SEP 11, 2007
Reunion Ticket Sales End on Wed Oct 17th
(**Only 36 days left until the reunion!**)

Hi Seniors (and I do mean seniors!),

I went to Coldwell in 1st grade, Hondo Cottages in 2nd, Robert. E. Lee in 3rd, Crosby in 4th, Stanton 5th - 7th, Irvin 8th -12th. My grandfather came to E.P. in the 1890s, so my family has strong roots there. I left EP in 1976 for Austin, TX. When we moved to 9108 Mt. Rushmore in 1956, we were the only house on the block. There was no drainage ditch system in place yet and we had a flood where the water was so high in front of our house that you
couldn’t see the fire hydrant.

Time has gone by so fast that I can’t believe we are having our 40th reunion. Our spirit is ageless. Although we came of age together 40 years ago and our bodies have aged by 14,702 days, our spirit remains the same age. Coincidentally, this is also the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love!

In a stream of consciousness kind of way (which requires no composition skills, whatsoever), I’d like to make a reference to some of the images and memories that I have somehow retained. These include: (this will be a really long sentence, Mrs. Etheridge) Red Brown & Anna Lee’s Saturday Circus, Uncle Roy’s Clean Your Plate Club, Rudy Telles’ 4:30 Dance Party, Crosno’s Hop with James Brown, Sunny Y Los Sunliners and a Ft. Bliss G.I. named John Denver, Chicken Fat & Booze, Malicio OOlibarthy, the neon sign at the Montana St. Red Rooster that crowed every hour on the hour, Lucky Boy Hamburgers, The Charcoaler, Elmer’s Broasted Chicken, Spanish Village, Swanky Franky, sitting at La Paloma at a table one foot away from cars whizzing down Dyer St., Ashley’s Restaurant on Montana with the huge goldfish pond, Spudnuts sold door-to-door, 3V Cola, watching Texas Western beat Kentucky on TV at the Rendezvous and then celebrating by dancing the Wobble, Mashed Potatoes and the Dirty Dog to Richard and the Pig Town Lords, having a membership card to Bobby Fuller’s Teen Club at age 13, The Frijole, The Establishment, Silver Poodle, Crystal Park Pool, Cottonwood Springs, the cave at Anthony Gap, Greenfields, the Levee, seeing Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, Buffalo Springfield, The Animals, Grand Funk at the Coliseum, watching Long John hang by the rafters with one hand and play the guitar with the other at the Lobby, Fred’s sandwiches, free gardenias for the ladies at The Caverns of Music, trying to dry off after an Irvin P.E. shower with a towel the size of a wash cloth, saving up 70 cents change each day from lunch money by eating the 5 cent fresh rolls and 25 cent bowl of chili, wearing felt Twist caps with curly pipe cleaners to Susie Thibideaux’s dance parties and dancing to “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” over and over at the end of the night, showering quickly after the football games to get to the dance at the cafeteria where The Electras were playing, Coach Bunton’s swats at Stanton and an exceptional girl fight in the contiguous drainage ditch, ciphering contests on the blackboard in 7th grade (Phyllis Groff always won), dancing to the Music Machine’s “Talk,Talk” with a strobe light at McKelligon’s Canyon Pavilion, making polyhedron models for SMSG, the usually stoic Mr. Bockwitz, 9th grad algebra teacher, dismissing class with a tear in his eye after letting us know our President had just been killed in Dallas, finally beating Coronado in football and shaving our heads (Go Rockets!!), visiting the “new” EP airport in Miss Jo’s (what an angel) 4th class at Crosby, horny toads, vinagrones, tying thread around their necks of June bugs and flying them like kites, catching 3-eyed fish out of Ascarate Lake, the smell of the desert after a rain, the Franklin Mountains changing from pink to purple when the sun rises, some guy in a snake pit for several days at Northgate Shopping Center, Sonny & Cher coming to Northgate Theater for the world premiere of their movie, “Break a glass – Call Baker Glass”, “Lady: Call Brady” (Karen), the paupers’ graveyard near Magoffin Jr. High, the Alligator Pond downtown, Major Kell’s homemade baseball field behind Restlawn Cemetery, Vanderpool Bakery giving away a pie when a Little Leaguer hit a home run, singing “If You Want to be Happy for the Rest of Your Life, Get an Ugly Woman to be Your Wife” on the train to the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque, Flash Gordon movies at Stanton on Saturday for a dime, fishing for wasp larvae with a long piece of grass, pouring water down a ground squirrel hole and holding a bag at the exit hole to catch him, Irvin Asst.Principal Taylor addressing “that good old 3%” -and you know who you are - that spoils it for everybody”, my band playing “Batman” at the Tennis Variety Show, one of the Novas riding down the Irvin Gymnasium roof on a tricycle (this one might have been an urban legend) and the senior trip to Carlsbad Caverns(WooHoo!). What a long, strange trip it’s been!

I’ve got to stop and take a breath – we’ll finish this with YOUR memories in
October. I have missed you!
INTRO BY- - Don Dungan

ATTENDEES RESPONSE TO ACTIVITIES REQUESTED FOR PLANNING
(**Irvin HS 40th Reunion**)

Class of 1967 Reunion Attendees,

Please consider this eBlast 14 Part II for Attendees. We need a response to this email unless you have recently submitted an update to your planned reunion activities. Please check the web to be certain we have listed the events you want to attend:
http://shasteen.com/IrvinAttendingWEB2.pdf

We hope you're enjoying the individual eBlast Intro's as much as the Reunion Committee. The last one by Don Dungan resulted in a lot of fun discussions about who has the best memory of El Paso in the 1960's. Before we get too distracted, there is one very important thing we need each and every one of you to do and that is confirm what events you plan on participating in at the Reunion.

If any of you have planned an event like this in the past, you probably know that when we try to make a reservation for over 20 people, establishments start asking for assurances that we won't cancel at the last minute and cause them to lose business and with 133 tickets sold, they're asking for a lot of guarantees to set aside space for us. In most cases we have to commit to buying X meals to reserve a room of X size, so we need an accurate head count, especially for the new Dinner Functions.

Looking forward to seeing you in October.

Thanks from your Reunion Committee

IRVIN 67 eBlast No. 13 for AUGUST 30, 2007
(**Only 48 days left until the reunion!**)

I can't tell you how excited I am about our 40th Reunion. I have never been able to attend other reunions and am looking forward to this one. The El Paso group started the pre-reunion party in June and had so much fun with everyone who attended. Check out the pictures on Carolyn's website about the reunion. Marion Warhurst Hughes brought her yearbook and everyone kept looking through it, remembering friends and classmates. When you come back to El Paso, you will see that some things have really changed and others are just the same. The people in El Paso are still friendly, the weather is still pretty close to perfect, the mountains are still awesome, and we still have the best Mexican food in the world. We have had friends and family come and go, but El Paso remains home for us and many other wonderful people. There is so much to see and do here and your El Paso friends (the Three Amigas - Jinny Steward Forbes and Sandi Anderson Smith, and me, plus others still here - Rodney Wiggs, Nona Hobbs Limones, Fernie Chavez, Steve Reyes, Tim Burns, Terry Freiburg, Betty Eamello Kaminski, Vicki Gould Hibbs, Ed and Gloria Ortiz Vera, Lester Smith, Janet Castle Eschenbrenner, Karen Minson Pofahl, Ruthie Ming DeLeon, Jack Briggs, John Wofford, Robert Rawlins, Mickey and Janet Taylor Wilhite) are anxious to show you a great time. The ones listed here are those registered at this time.

When the planning started for our 40th reunion, a challenge was issued for El Pasoans to make a good showing versus our friends coming in from out of town. We have improved our attendance, but still have several in town who have not registered yet. So far the totals for returning alumni are: 22 from EP, 23 TX, and 37 from Out of State. If you know someone else in El Paso who hasn't registered, please encourage them to come and see you. If you have memorabilia you would like to share with the Class of '67, please bring it with you. So put on your party hats and "boots" and let's get this party started. See you in October.

It was the summer of 1962 and I anxiously ventured into the hallowed halls of Irvin High School, an excited and slightly nervous young lady, dressed to impress and hopeful that I was ready to begin classes that fall as an eighth grader. As I walked with friends through the marked paths to find the area for pre-registration, I was overwhelmed by the largeness of the school, but was also beginning to feel that I had somewhat arrived - that maybe I could walk amongst the hundreds of under and upper classmen with confidence and ease. And then just as I was absolutely convinced that my pre-arrival jitters earlier that morning had been entirely without warrant - I walked smack dab face first into a pillar made of something resembling concrete and marble. Needless to say my first impression of Irvin was lasting!

Fortunately after such a disastrous beginning, my high school days greatly improved and five years later I was seated with all of you in cap and gown, saddened that this chapter in my life was over. I look back now and feel so blessed to have been even a small part of such an amazing school and to have grown up with such remarkable people. I think some of the fun of coming to our previous Irvin reunions has been talking about this past, the people from our school days, the whole high school experience. But that is such a small piece of the total reunion picture! In addition to remembering, reviving the forgotten, and reminiscing about our misspent youth - there will also be an opportunity to meet new friends, create new memories, and make new lasting impressions. So meet me in El Paso on October 18. If you didn't know me in high school I want to meet you now. If you did know me in high school come anyway - I promise I've changed for the better! J

IRVIN 67 eBlast No. 11 for AUGUST 03, 2007
(**Only 75 days left until the reunion!**)

They say you can't go home again....but let's toss that old saying to the wind in give it a try! Why not enjoy a peek into your past, you're still feeling 18 years old....at least inside. I for one am challenging our Irvin Debate Team ....boys & girls.....to make a posting at the 40th reunion. With luck Mrs. Etheridge will be there. I haven't seen her since high school, but I want to remind her how much she meant to me at that jumping off the cliff time of life. Serendipitously, my memories of Mrs. Etheridge came full circle through the power of the internet and newly found Irvin friends. Complaining that I no longer had a 1967 Irvin Orbit, fellow reunion organizer Jim L found one for me on eBay. When it arrived, I eagerly unwrapped it to show my teenage daughters how amazingly thin I used to be...they never got past the weird glasses and mile high hair we all had then. But, I couldn't believe my luck, this '67 Orbit belonged to Billie Walker Etheridge! And we had all signed it.... Sandy Jones, Bob Malone, Donna Henderson, Hal Gale, Mary Wynne, Charles Santaguida, Peggy Shepherd, Phyllis Groff, Gary Hlavacek... to name a few. I laughed...I cried...but I read every word. Shared memories can be powerful things. Bring your signed copy of the Irvin Orbit, a good story or two and join us as we head home again for our 40th Reunion!

IRVIN 67 eBlast No. 10 for JULY 25, 2007
(**Only 84 days left until the reunion!**)

I live in Morgantown, WV, the home of Don Knotts aka Barney Fife. He never missed a decade high school reunion and said taking time to look back at where you were was good! I agree with him. I believe nostalgia and reconnecting are good for the soul, at least it has been good for me. I am looking forward to our reunion in October. For me life just continues to get more interesting with each decade, and this is a big decade milestone for me. Our 20th reunion was the only one I have been able to attend so I like to say this year is the 20th anniversary of our 20th reunion. Will I see you there? I have enjoyed working with the committee, making plans, and going through my yearbooks. While reviewing my memorabilia I will see a familiar face, and say to myself, I wonder what happened to him or her. I would love to find out! I hope you do also, as I would love to see you in El Paso in October.  Thanks!

IRVIN 67 eBlast No. 06 for JUN 20, 2007
(Only 10 more days for reduced price)

"Mi Casa es Su Casa!" What a welcoming beginning to those returning to the city where they grew up over 40 years ago. Keeping that in mind … your Class of ’67 Reunion Committee has issued a "Challenge" to all ’67 Irvin graduates. The challenge you ask?? … it’s the Out-of-Towners vs. the El Pasoans. And presently the Out-of-Towners are winning this challenge. We feel sure there must be something awry here! Committee members had expected to see many, many more El Pasoans registered for our 40th Reunion. Just think about it - we Out-of-Towners are coming from far away places to visit with you! So first … we need more of you El Pasoans to register to come to this reunion! And second ... after you sign up it would be wonderful if those of you who have room could open your homes to fellow classmates. Talk about a quick reconnection! And while on the subject, what about driving some of us Out-of-Towners around to different Reunion venues?

Needless to say Fellow Classmates, we can't meet reunion goals without you...each and every one of you. We have a commitment to the Hotel Ballroom that has to be met prior to the reunion. Once this obligatory item is taken care of … the rest will fall into place! Of course, we, the Class of '67, are open to any and all contributions to meet our common goal here …to have the Best 40th Reunion in the City of El Paso – State of Texas! So please … let's truly Get This Party Started! We can do this – but it will take all of us – a family/team/group effort to accomplish our Big Night.

Send in those Registration forms and checks and let’s not forget the Challenge! The Heat is On! Woohoo! GO GET 'EM ROCKETS! Class of 1967 – the Best of the Best!

IRVIN 67 eBlast No. 05 for JUN 11, 2007
(Need your Registration Form & Check ASAP)

Hey Y'all! Some of us may compare our lives to that of a "Roller Coaster." Highs and lows, ups and downs. But one must be able to see that without the lows and the downs, there couldn't possibly be any highs and ups. They go hand in hand with one another like us, Class of 1967. We have definitely experienced these emotions through High School and are still experiencing them today. At our Reunion we are going to experience the "full loop" of our Roller Coaster ride through life. We will continue where we left off and resume our friendships as if time had stood still. This Reunion is going to be absolutely about the "Highs and Ups"...when we all meet at this Reunion on October 18-21 we will share the best of each of us with our fellow Classmates. We will have a weekend of such positive vibes and friendships that we will not have time to think of the negatives for 3 wonderful days. Thanks to each and every one of you, Irvin Class of 1967 40th Reunion will be the "BEST IN TEXAS!" WooHoo! GO GET 'EM ROCKETS! Countdown: 10...9...8....7...and so on. Can't Blast Off without YOU!

IRVIN 67 eBlast No. 04 for JUN 01, 2007

No matter how you say 40 years ago, 4 decades ago, eons ago, or just "Way back when" the years have not dampened the spirit of the Class of 1967. You still have that unbridled faith to meet a challenge and be winners. The response to Your Reunion has been overwhelming and very, very much appreciated by your Reunion Committee. Our Class of 1967 is sure to reach a milestone with our Reunion....both with being one of the largest...if not the largest...and one accomplished through the dedication of each and every one of you. Woo Hoo! Y'all are awesome! Know that preparations for your Reunion keep on getting better and better with each day that goes by. GO GET 'EM ROCKETS! IRVIN eBlast No. 02 for MAY 19, 2007

Class of 1967 Graduates "UNITED WE STAND!" Need to let you know about "your" reunion. Fellow classmates have been busy planning our "comeback." This event has been scheduled during Irvin's Homecoming Weekend...October 18 - 21...with the MAIN EVENT scheduled for October 20, 2007 at the Holiday Inn Airport's Ballroom. We need your help, in order to better anticipate the kind of turnout we should expect. The committee would like to get a preliminary count on those of you planning to attend reunion at a cost of $60.00 each. Please note this is just an "intention" to come. We do hope your answer will be yes, as it wouldn't be complete without you there. Class of 1967 Graduates let us all pull together....get this poll out of the way....and get ready for the BEST REUNION ever! Thanks,
